Mary Margaret “Meg” Rabbitt Bastnagel

With heavy hearts we are sad to announce that Mary Margaret Rabbitt Bastnagel, “Meg” to her family and friends, passed from this world on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.  Born in Indianapolis on May 6, 1960, to Mary Frances Gavin Rabbitt Selch and Andre’ E. Rabbitt of Hartford City, IN.  Granddaughter of Sarah Frances Cooper Gavin and William E. Gavin.

Meg graduated from St. Richard’s Episcopal Elementary School, Indianapolis Public School #80, Broad Ripple Middle School, attended Lady Wood St. Agnes until it’s closing in 1976 and graduated from Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in 1978.  She studied at Manchester Community College in Connecticut and worked as a bookkeeper for many years.

Meg was very involved in many aspects of her community; lending nurturing support to more people than we can count.  She was blessed to have two wonderful and brilliant sons, James Daniel and Michael Gavin Bastnagel.  She was extremely proud of them and loved them dearly.  Her boys were her world.  Through James she has four grandchildren, Christina, Christian, Nikolai, and Nala, and three great grandchildren, Daniel, Giovanni, and Jazmyn.

Meg is survived by her sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, Virginia Rabbit-Jenkins (Gary), Sarah Catherine Gavin Selch, Irena Christine Selch Warriner (Jeremy), Shelley Rabbitt Fletcher (David), Kimberly Rabbitt Walters (Phil), LeeAnn Rabbitt Hoskins, Michelle Rabbitt Holiday (Chris); step-brother, Shawn Selch (Michelle); step-father, Scotty Selch (Nancy); nephews and nieces, Connor, Calean, Cameron, Colleen and Cade Priddy, Kassandra Rhea and Eheran Burrrows, Colin Jenkins; step-nephew, Ian and step-niece, Katelynn Selch.

She will be remembered with our hearts full of love and compassion.  She taught each of us to be humble, kind, and treat everyone with respect as the world is bigger than just ourselves.  To look outside of ourselves when we think our lives are bad because there is always someone you can lift up that may have it worse.  She truly embodied the meaning of love and friendship to all.

Mary Margaret “Meg” Rabbitt Bastnagel’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 3,1, 2016 at noon (ET) a Trinity Episcopal Church located at 3243 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208.  We will travel to a family plot at Crown Hill Cemetery for internment.  A Celebration of Life of will be held at Trinity Church, in the Fortune Room immediately following internment for those who would like to celebrate Meg’s life with her family.  She spent many hours of her life growing up at St. Richard’s Episcopal School and attending church daily at Trinity Church as a child.  Flowers may be sent to arrive on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 or in lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to….
